To add a little extra spice to this year’s  European Day of Languages, we are aiming to identify  ‘Europe’s most multilingual classrooms and workplaces’. We would like to invite schools, offices, associations and in fact any organisations or individuals to showcase their language skills. Through this initiative we would like to highlight multilingual Europe in practice, and also discover Europe’s most language rich classrooms and workplaces.

Participation can be via any creative means that demonstrate how multilingual a classroom/organisation is. This can be, for example, through a short video or audio recording (no longer than 30s), a poster, a piece of creative writing, a song demonstrating the language skills present, in fact – just about anything ! As 2018 is the European Year of Cultural Heritage, we also welcome entries showing innovative ways of discovering and presenting other cultures in a school, place of study or work place.

By  the closing date on 10 October 2018 we hope to identify Europe’s most multilingual and intercultural classrooms and workplaces. All entrants will receive a certificate of participation.

Have you ever wondered how multilingual your classroom/organisation actually is? There are often many more languages represented in a school classroom, an office or an association than you expect. This can be down to a variety of reasons: your pupils or colleagues may speak different home or heritage languages, they may have lived or worked in different countries or indeed they may simply have learned their languages through formal and informal education.

It is estimated that there are over 225 indigenous languages in Europe, without even including languages which have arrived on the continent through migration.
For the 2018 European Day of Languages we are looking for schools, offices, associations and in fact any organisations or individuals, who would like to showcase their languages. A quel point votre classe ou votre organisation est-elle multilingue ?

Vous êtes-vous déjà posé la question de savoir à quel point votre classe ou organisation était multilingue ? Bien souvent, il y a bien davantage de langues présentes dans une classe, un bureau ou une association que ce vous imaginez. Cette situation peut s’expliquer par de multiples raisons : les élèves ou les collègues parlent peut-être une autre langue à la maison ou ont d’autres langues d’origine ; ils ont peut-être vécu ou travaillé dans d’autres pays ; ou il est probable qu’ils aient tout simplement appris des langues dans le cadre de l’éducation formelle et informelle.

On estime qu’il y a plus de 225 langues indigènes en Europe, sans compter les langues qui ont été introduites sur le continent par le biais des migrations.

Dans le cadre de la Journée européenne des langues 2018, nous invitons les établissements scolaires, les bureaux, les associations et, en fait, toutes les organisations ou individus à présenter leurs compétences linguistiques. Au travers de cette initiative, nous souhaitons mettre en valeur les réalités multilingues de l’Europe d’aujourd’hui et découvrir quels sont les salles de classe et les lieux de travail les plus riches en langues sur le continent.

Pour y participer, tout moyen créatif est bon pour démontrer à quel point une salle de classe ou une organisation est multilingue. A titre d’exemple, il est possible d’utiliser une courte vidéo ou un enregistrement audio (au maximum 30 secondes), une affiche, un texte créatif, une chanson démontrant les aptitudes linguistiques, bref tout est imaginable ! Puisque 2018 est l’Année européenne du patrimoine culturel, nous serions également heureux de recevoir des contributions sur des façons novatrices de découvrir et de présenter d’autres cultures au sein de l’école, sur le lieu d’études ou au travail.

D’ici le 10 octobre 2018, nous comptons identifier les classes et les lieux de travail les plus multilingues et interculturels d’Europe.
